Imgur dropped support for NSFW Subreddits Citing Business Risks

Last year in October 2019, an article was published to the public by a popular image sharing site called Imgur. It stated that from October 2019, no NSFW Communities will be supported due to the risks in their businesses.

To be more specific, “As of Oct 2019, Imgur will no longer display NSFW Imgur r/subsections associated with Reddit subreddits”. Also, the pages which contained the content were restricted to minors stating that “will now require that a user log in and acknowledge that they are 18+ years of age in order to view”.

But the good news was also relaxing to the Redditors clarifying that no legal content which was uploaded earlier on the website will be removed and will stay available to the Original links.

According to the post, NFSW Content will be called aa legal on the web, they will be able to upload it provided that they are marked as Hidden.

All of this had to be wrapped up because “these pages have put Imgur’s user growth, mission, and business at risk. We want Imgur to be a fun and entertaining place that brings happiness to the Internet for many, many years to come. Thus, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue support for these subsections on Imgur”.

Also, to all the Redditors that are seeking alternatives to upload such content to the adult sub. The company stated that they use a number of third-party services namely Redditery and Redditgrid which does not filter or restrict the above-noted content.
