Sometimes, after updating the applications or if the applications keep running in the background then it can slow down the speed. Thus, it is recommended to keep Windows up-to-date to improve and enhance performance.

Now, take a glance at the tips listed below to help overcome all the difficulties:

1. Change the Power Settings

The very first step is to check whether the Power Saver mode is activated or not. If you are using the latest versions of the Windows OS then set the Power Saving Mode to On status. This reduces the RAM consumption and saves energy, to make it run for a long time.

However, changing the Power plan, power-saving to “High Performance” can enhance the performance as well as speed up Windows. But the only drawback is that you will run out the battery life.

You can opt for the “Balanced” option, also. This will give render optimum performance and will also save the battery. Now, to change the Power settings, you can check the points mentioned below:

  • Go to the “Hardware & Sound” section.
  • Then, go to “Power Options” and select it.

Based on the situation, you can select either “Balanced” or “High Performance” to speed up Windows OS.

2. Limit or Disable Startup Programs

Another reason that leads to sluggish Windows is startup programs. These programs keep running in the background as soon as you start the device. So, to speed up Windows, you need to disable those unnecessary programs. Simply follow the given steps.

For Windows 8 or Higher version:

  • Right-click on the Windows bar and select the Task Manager.

You can always run the application or program by launching it manually. Disabling at the startup will just stop the program or application to run when the Windows start.

The Task Manager helps you to get information about unfamiliar programs as well as the location of the program in your hard disk. So, if you want to launch the application again then simply navigate to the Task Manager.

3. Cleaning the Registry

The registry files track and control all the aspects of Windows OS. However, the registry can become messed up. Because even when you uninstall any application or program, the settings stay back and thus unwanted data starts accumulating, resulting in slow down of Windows.

Now, cleaning the registry is a complex process so you can use any third-party software or application. Simply follow the steps given below to proceed:
