VIVO Z1 PRO Design Features Performance

Vivo is India’s biggest and most visible smartphone brand and now it wants to compete with online-focused players with its new model Vivo Z1 Pro. This phone targets the millennials and the Gen Z buyers who want great looking phones along with the latest capabilities including great cameras, battery life and processing power for gaming. It looks as though Vivo really studies all current smartphone trends before bringing this device into the market. And this phone is all set to give Xiaomi, Samsung & realme a run for the money. The phone is priced at ₹14,990 and higher as the ram and storage preferences go up.

DESIGN

The first thing you will notice about the front of the Vivo Z1 Pro is its oversized screen with a hole in the upper left for the front camera. This is obviously the next big trend after screen notches. The camera hole is not too big and is not distracting in everyday use. The Vivo Z1 Pro features and eye-catching, glossy plastic rear panel with a multicoloured gradient finish. It also catches the light as you tilt it around.

The tilted camera module on the rear sticks out just a little bit. There is also a standard fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone positioned just slightly out of reach for us. The power and the volume buttons are on the right and there is a physical google assistant button on the left just below the sim and the micro SD card tray. It is a bit disappointing to see Vivo continue to stick with micro USB ports in a newly launched product whereas every competitor is using type C. There are a 3.5mm headphone socket and a speaker grill on the bottom. Vivo Z1 Pro weighs 201 grams and is 8.5mm thick.

The big news with the Vivo Z1 Pro is that this is the first phone in India based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 processor. This chip was announced earlier this year as an improvement over the Snapdragon 710 earlier this year. It features six 1.7 GHz cryo 360 silver caused tuned for efficiency and two 2.3 GHz cryo 360 cold cause for power along with with adreno 616 graphics. You have got a choice of variants and you can get this phone with either 4gb or 6gb of ram with 64gb or 128gb of storage. The screen measures 6.53 inches and has a full HD plus 1080×2340 resolution. PERFORMANCE

The new Vivo Z1 Pro runs fun touch OS, a very heavily modified UI for android 9. A lot of things are changed around compared to stock android. It has quite a few interesting features including gestures and app cloning but there is a lot of pre-loaded bloatware. One of the highlights of the fun touch OS is the game mode which now includes specific optimizations for PubG mobile. The phone has 4D vibration effects, 3D surround sound, a voice-changing filter and the ability to run a countdown timer so you can do your other things while you wait for your match to begin. Upon being used, there never occurred a slowdown or hesitation with the phone.

The display is very sharp and legible in all conditions. Viewing angles are great but colours are not as vivid as they are on competing phones with AMOLED panels. There is a system-wide dark mode though not all third-party apps can recognize this and adapt. The status bar at the top of the screen is thick enough to enclose the front camera hole when using Vantage OS UI and in most apps that don’t go for screen.

We did find it a little distracting when watching videos. The single speaker on the bottom of this phone is quite loud. The sound tends to distort at high volumes. The snapdragon 712 gives this phone a slight edge compared to phones powered by the Snapdragon 710. The camera dot did not interfere in gaming as it is nearly always covered by our thumb anyway. The phone has 5000mAH battery and Vivo’s dual-engine fast charging tech. Battery life is also very good and can run for 18 hours straight over an HD video loop.

The triple rear camera modules consist of a main 16 MP camera, an 8 MP wide-angle camera and a 2 MP depth centre. The single front camera has a 32 MP sensor. The camera’s app UI takes a little getting used to. Although the pictures clicked by the phone were fairly impressive with nice detailing and colours pop. CONCLUSION

This phone has nearly every current day feature and a selling point that we can expect on a phone priced below ₹20,000. Most notably the hole-punch camera and three rear cameras, Vivo has managed to deliver competitive specifications and there is nothing major missing that any other company offers right now.
