Top 5 Concertinas For Sale [Under $3000]
Today, there are many concertinas available on the market. This can be both a blessing as well as a curse. It can be daunting for inexperienced players to try to purchase a new concertina.
We searched the internet for the best anglo concertina and came across nearly a dozen. Our selection was narrowed to English and Anglo-style concertinas as these are the most common styles on the market.
The concertina models we chose were easy enough for beginners, but also offered advanced musicians great sound range. We recommend keys in the 20-30 range. The best models produce loud, clear sounds with beautiful tones.
We carefully chose instruments that are durable and long-lasting, as they offer incredible value. Models that come with good warranties received extra points.
We also considered ease of use when selecting the instruments. Instruments that musicians can comfortably use were our top priorities. Therefore, we favored models that have adjustable and padded thumb straps or hand bands. Air-release buttons were included on all instruments to allow you to close it without making a loud, horrifying bang.
Concertinas are also easy to take on the road. We gave bonus points for concertinas with convenient carrying cases.
The concertina, a musical instrument closely related to the accordion, is also known as the concertina. The concertina is not widely used, but there is a tight-knit group of people who use it. There are many types of concertinas, but all operate on the same principle.
A concertina has over 1,000 parts. If one part is not connected with another, it can affect the overall quality. You can buy new or used concertinas. There are certain things you should look out for when buying a concertina, new or used. These will help you make informed buying decisions.
Concertinas have a tradition of having bellows that are 6 to 7 folds. Concertinas with more folds are generally better because the player has more air to work from and the buttons won’t need to be used when playing more notes. Some concertinas only have 5 folds. A concertina with six folds or more is better.
This is especially true for those who have just graduated from the basic anglo concertina. Now it’s time to find a new instrument to showcase your skills. A concertina player can only be as good as the instrument they use at this stage. It is therefore important to pick the right instrument.
There are many beautiful instruments, all handcrafted by skilled makers, available. These concertinas are often quite expensive. It is difficult to determine if a less expensive instrument will suffice to take you to the next level.
This is why we have compiled this list of my top recommendations for intermediate concertinas on the market. These are anglo concertinas of mid-range quality in the key C/G.
You don’t have to worry about it, I’ve kept my budget in check. Each concertina is listed below $3000
It is possible to get a high-quality instrument with a responsive tone and great sound at a reasonable price.

The Standard Tedrow Concertina
The fifth is a lovely little concertina, which can be difficult to find but is worth the investment.
Unfortunately for us, but fortunately for him, its skilled maker Bob Tedrow developed a passion for fly fishing, which now occupies his time.
Don’t despair! Sometimes, second-hand models make it back to him. You can find them through the music shop Homewood Music.
This handmade 30 button C/G Anglo Concertina is similar to the Clover and uses traditional Italian accordion Reeds. It’s handcrafted using traditional techniques.
The ends are made of solid mahogany and have hand-cut fretwork. The springs and rivets used are stainless steel. This concertina has a very responsive action. It has seven folds of black leather bellows, rather than six.
Homewood Music offers this instrument at $2250 when it is in stock (approx. EUR1900).
The AP James Concertina
This anglo concertina is ranked fourth and has all the characteristics of a beginner’s instrument. It is known for its bright, clear sound and rapid response.
Anthony James, a brilliant concertina maker, made this 30 button concertina. It has Tipo A Mano Italian Steel reeds and riveted actions. Anthony used individual cards to make the 6 fold leather bellows flexible.
The AP James concertina can be ordered with either solid Sapele or steel ends. Both versions have beautiful solid Sapele ends with adjustable straps. APJ Music sells anglo concertinas for approximately $1600 (approx PS1200 GBP)
The Ceili Concertina
The Ceili Anglo Concertina is a 30 key anglo concertina. It can be ordered with either a Jeffries layout or a Wheatstone/Lachenal fingering arrangement. The Ceili Anglo concertina is handmade to have all the features of vintage Morse concertinas. These concertinas can be customized and come with a fingerboard layout.
R Morse has been designing and building reliable, high-quality concertinas in western Massachusetts ever since 1999. His concertinas have a light, bright tone that is incredibly enjoyable to play and are very nimble.
They are also very easy to see. The Ceili is available in a variety of finishes, including cherry laminate with a rosewood stain and satin black.
This concertina, like the Phoenix’s, features solid Delrin buttons that provide quiet and smooth action. This instrument is highly responsive and features traditional riveted action with stainless steel springs.
The Morse Ceili’s lightness is a notable characteristic. The reedpan is integrated with the action board. High quality Italian accordion reeds provide a wide dynamic range and a bright, clear sound. For an additional fee, reeds can be hand-finished (tipo mano).
The Ceili has a sound that rivals most vintage concertinas. This is a remarkable feat for a modern concertina. It is why it isn’t at the top of the list.
This beautiful concertina is $175 more than the budget at $3000. It was so good that I had to include it. You could have a true gem of a concertina for a small price difference.
Clover Concertina
The beautiful Clover Anglo Concertina by Concertina Connection is third on my list. This hybrid anglo-anglo concertina has 30 buttons and C/G tuning. It is one of the most versatile midrange concertinas available.
The accordion reeds are made in Italy and produce a loud, clear sound. Traditional riveted brass action gives the concertina a quick response. For playing Irish Music, riveted levers are recommended as they provide better instrument action.
Clover features traditional domed metal-capped buttons with buttons. It can be fitted in Wheatstone or Jeffries. You can also choose from ebonized (black) and natural finishes.
$2.500 (approx. This beautiful instrument is still worth the investment.
Which is the best concertina?
Steel reeds have a better reputation than brass reeds when it comes to buying concertinas. Steel reeds have brighter sounds and will last for longer than brass reeds. Steel reeds are used in most Anglo concertinas.
The buttons on vintage concertinas are also known as keys or metal buttons. Metal buttons and bone are strong and can withstand vigorous playing. Many concertinas have metal buttons. These buttons are excellent. Some have plastic buttons which might not be as good. It doesn’t matter if the button is made of metal or plastic, it’s important to check if the keys reach the end plates. The gasket protects the buttons and end plates, which helps to improve the concertina’s durability. It is best to purchase concertinas with metal buttons and felt gaskets.
