Buying new, quality earbuds and headphones is the kind of thing you end up doing every once in a while — unless you’re a dedicated audiophile, and there’s nothing wrong with that!
Headphones tend to last for a good while, unless you buy something ridiculously cheap in which case they will probably crumble fall apart before your very eyes. But when they fail — or are on their way out — that’s when the search for a new pair becomes, well, dire.
Exacerbating the buying process beyond all hope is the fact that there are dozens — if not hundreds — of different headphone types. The obvious include over-the-ear, in-ear buds, and your more common pods. If you know what you want, great! If you’re getting ready to shop and you have no idea, however, good luck.
Before long you’ll be forced to consider whether you want features like wireless or wired, Bluetooth-enabled or conventional, dumb or smart, and the list goes on.
You should always make your choice based upon what you need. For example, if you’re a runner you’ll want something that is secure and stays in your ear. You’ll also probably opt for wireless, lest you wrestle with wires your entire workout or exercise session. You may even go with something smarter, and connected that offers a workout or voice assistant.
Aside from the more obvious reasons why you might opt for wireless or Bluetooth earbuds, there are several things you should consider. For starters, wireless and Bluetooth earbuds are the best thing since sliced bread and they also happen to be — unless you need full, noise-cancelling headphones — one of the best things about the headphone market.
What else makes them great, though?
- Wires Suck
In the moment, one of the worst things about dealing with wired headphones are the wires. You have to wrap them under your shirt, and make sure they don’t get tangle or snag on nearby objects.
If you’re active, you have to make sure the cord is secure enough that it won’t rend your phone or media player out of your pocket. Ever snag a cord on something and watch your phone go flying? It’s not pretty.
Another aspect of this is that you can leave your device nearby, as opposed to carrying it on your person. With physical wires, the media player or phone must remain in your pocket or within a wearable holder at all times. Wireless allows you a bigger degree of freedom.
- They Still Sound Great
Wireless earbuds and pods from the days of old would often sacrifice sound quality and reliability to make up for the smaller form factor. Smooth, deep bass, for example is not a feature that most earbuds would typically offer.
That’s no longer the case. Both the technology and the audio quality have been advanced considerably thanks to modern builds. It is now more than possible, it’s actually likely you’ll find a decent pair of earbuds that offer great audio feedback.
- You Can Still Choose Headphones
Hate earbuds? No problem. You can actually opt for over-the-ear and more conventional forms of headphones and still take advantage of the wireless support. In fact, we’d argue that wireless headphones — as opposed to earbuds — are the ideal way to enjoy exceptional audio experiences.
- Battery Life is Excellent
With electronics, especially wireless ones there’s often the issue of battery life. Taking something and making it wire-free sometimes results in poor usage times, coupled with the frequent need to charge devices.
That’s not the case with the modern selection of wireless earbuds and headphones. In fact, some will last beyond a regular days usage, and come with a wireless charging case or portable power pack to boot — so that you can squeeze even more listening time out of the deal.
- They Are Affordable
Wireless earbuds and headphones can be expensive, as all things, but there are also plenty of inexpensive and affordable options out there too. You don’t have to break the bank or empty your wallet just to have a great listening experience.
Hopefully, you realize that wireless and Bluetooth earbuds — headphones too — are the best thing since sliced bread. Except for baguettes, obviously, because those are awesome and nothing will ever top their reverence.
