Are you currently working from home? There are some great technologies you could be utilising. We spoke with TechQuarters, one of the leading IT Companies in London, about what kind of tech they might recommend to you for working from home.
FTTP
If you work in IT, you’ll definitely be wanting the fastest tech possible, including your internet – and when it comes to internet, it doesn’t get much faster than Fibre To The Premises! According to TechQuarters, some of their more senior IT technicians have invested in having FTTP installed into their homes; aside from allowing them to download movies and games in a matter of minutes, it also allows them to deliver IT support in London with maximum efficiency.
Fibre To The Premises, or FTTP, refers to how your internet cable feeds into your home. With more fibre broadband, high speed optical fibre is fed to a fibre cabinet near your home, and the fibre cabinet will be connected to your house via copper wiring. With FTTP, however, the high-speed optical fibre is fed directly into your home, giving you truly superfast broadband.
With this broadband solution you can achieve upload and download speeds thousands of times faster than with traditional broadband.
Docking Stations
Do you use a laptop to work? While laptops come with their own benefits, namely that they are portable, you may get tired of looking at the smaller screen, typing on the smaller keyboard, and sitting at the angle require to work on the laptop. This is where Docking Stations come in.
Docking Stations are an effective way of turning a laptop into a desktop computer. You can have devices such as wired keyboards and mouses, PC monitors, printers, and hard drives connected to it; you then just have to connect the dell docking station to your laptop, and you will be able to see everything on the PC monitor, use the full sized keyboard and mouse, and have access to all your hard drives and any other peripherals you might need to use.
Using a Docking Station is a great way to have all the benefits of a desktop PC whilst keeping the flexibility of your laptop.
NAS Drive
It’s hard not to accumulate a lot of files when working these days, and if you are working from home, then you probably also have personal files, pictures, videos, etc. You may think that the 1TB hard drive on your computer is more than enough to hold all your personal and work files, but storing lots of data on your computers built-in hard drive will greatly increase the wear-and-tear on it, and slow it down prematurely. Therefore, it is best not to use your built-in hard drive for the bulk of your storage.
Most people would suggest a flash drive or an external hard drive that you plug into your computer, but we have a better solution: NAS drives.
A NAS drive is essentially a device comprised of several hard drives connected together, and a tiny computer, that connects to your internet, allowing you to wirelessly access anything that is stored on it. With a NAS drive, you can connect to it from any PC or laptop in your house to access your files.
For TechQuarters, home working has proven to be just as effective for delivering their IT support services in London. If they can achieve excellent home working, then so can you!
