Subscription-based Apps:
All of these require a subscription but do offer free trials; some provide 30-days free. Be aware that some of the content is restricted by geographical location but, usually, a decent VPN will get you around that.
Apple TV App
Apple TV+ app is Apple’s way of providing you with an all-in-one streaming service. Already on your iOS 12.3 or above device, the app provides one central hub for you to stream your iTunes library, personal library, watch your subscription services and you can also watchseries and thousands of movies. Some are included in the subscription, others must be purchased or rented. The subscription is $4.99 per month with a 7-day free trial.
Netflix
The number one streaming service, Netflix provides thousands of movies and series, with new stuff being added all the time. The more you watch, the better your viewing recommendations are and you can watch the classics right up to the very latest movies. Offline watching is available for some stuff and you need a subscription; new users get 30 days free.
Amazon Prime
Another top service, Amazon Prime provides a similar service to Netflix. There are plenty of movies and shows included in your subscription price and loads of others to rent or purchase. Offline watching is supported and new users get 30-days free to try it.
HBO GO
If you love watching the HBO channels you will love HBO GO. You get all their channels in one place and can choose between movies, series, documentaries, HBO originals, kid’s stuff, and external distributor content. Sometimes you may get a 7-day free trial.
Hotstar
The last of our subscription services is Hotstar, one of the biggest premium platforms in India. Here, you can live news, tv shows, sports, movies and much more. There are more than 100,000 hours of on-demand viewing, multiple languages are supported and there are two subscription packages to choose from.
Free Services:
These are the best free streaming apps we could find, offering a decent range of content. They will be ad-supported but usually, these do not get in the way of your viewing.
Kodi
A name that we all know, Kodi is an excellent media center. As well as streaming your own personal media, you can download from hundreds of add-ons, all free, that let you stream whatever you want – movies, sports, documentaries, TV series, anything you want. Tubi TV
A fairly new service but fast catching up with others, Tubi TV offers a great range of movies and TV series covering the most popular genres. There is something for everyone in this free app; you cannot watch offline though so an internet connection is needed and a free account.
ZEE5
Aimed at those who want to watch Indian-language content, Zee5 offers over 100,000 hours of movies, TV shows, popular web series and more. You can also watch 80+ live TV channels, get subtitles, a live TV guide and more. Although this is free to use, there are in-app purchases if you want them.
Hulu
Hulu is an incredibly popular app, one of the best-known and includes thousands of movies and TV series, all accessible with one-click. It has support for all platforms and supports Google Chromecast too. The only downside is, there is no offline watching. It is web-based and an internet connection is required.
Vudu
This is a comprehensive streaming app, offering thousands of shows, TV series, movies, and much more to choose from. It is ad-supported but they won’t interfere with your viewing experience. You get the choice of streaming in HDX, Airplay is supported, and you can download any of the more than 10,000 titles to watch offline.
There is something for everyone here. Each one of these streaming services, be they subscription or free, is legal to use and all offer a huge choice of movies, shows, documentaries, news, sports, and a whole lot more. Some even offer Live TV options, giving you an excellent choice of what to watch.
Do try them all; even the subscription-based apps let you try them for free and none of the subscriptions are expensive either. If you don’t like one, delete it and move onto the next.
