Two of the biggest entertainment industries, the film industry, and the gaming industry have a long history of inspiring one another. There have been great games based on movies and there have been great movies best on games as well.
And since we have already talked about some great games based on popular movies like the Sea of Thieves based on the all-time popular Pirates of the Caribbean, it’s time to turn the tables. And so today, we are going to be talking about 5 such awesome movies based on some of the popular video games of all time.
5- Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City
Resident Evil is, hands down, one of the best horror survival titles of all time, and no other game comes close to the level of immersion that this series has managed to create throughout all these years. Hopefully, they will manage to attain the same level of immersion in the movie as well. Yes! There is a Resident Evil movie in the works.
The latest Resident Evil is coming from writer/director Johannes Roberts who is famous for his 47 Meters Down and its sequel. The movie is going to be very faithful to the game when it comes to the story and the characters. The dying midwestern town is coming back to life along with all its monstrosities in this upcoming movie.
4- Uncharted
We are finally getting a movie based on the best-selling critically acclaimed video game of all time from Naughty Dog. Tom Holland is said to play Nathan Drake along with Mark Wahlberg as Sully. Nathan and Sully embark on the journey to find the long-lost treasure while also trying to track Nathan’s lost brother. The movie is all set to hit the theatres on 18th of February 2022.
3- Lara Croft: Tomb Raider
The Angelina Jolie starrer was a big hit of its time, inspired by the Tomb Raider video game series, the movie actually made it very big. Lara and a Secret Society race against one another to find an artifact that possesses the ability to control time.
The secret society wants to use the artifact for its own immoral personal gains and Lara just won’t let it happen. Given its history, this title has the potential to become yet another blockbuster in the future.
2- Mortal Kombat
None of the upcoming video game movies appear to be more faithful to the source material than Mortal Kombat. The Gory Fighter Adaptation Will Be Directed by New Kamisama McQuoid and Produced by Atomic Monster Productions.
Given the series’ numerous horrifying creature designs and a ton of bloodbath and gore, we’d say this is a perfect match. But that’s not all, the cast is also stacked with great action movie veterans. Apparently, Joe Taslim will take on the role of Sub-Zero, Hiroyuki Sadhana will play Scorpion and Tadanobu Asano will play Raiden in this ultimate thriller.
1- Super Mario Bros
Last but definitely not least, we have one of the most unexpected entries on this list, which I couldn’t believe either but it’s real, Super Mario Bros is confirmed to have been in production for a while and it is expected to be released sometime by the end of the year 2022.
Yes! we will be seeing two of the most famous plumbers of the gaming world come together to rock the cinemas this year and who wouldn’t want to hear the classic “its-a me, Mario!” and let their inner child out watching this super popular videogame get a movie adaptation in this era!

Seems like 2022 is going to be a blast for both the gamers and cinema-goers because there are some super spicy movies making their way to the market based on some of the most popular video games titles of all time.
I just can’t wait for these movies to hit the Cinemas and I am sure when they do, they will be packed with a ton of gamers. I Hope they don’t mess up our childhood.
