From Annakin’s goodbye to Luke and Leia’s deaths, Star War movies are filled with moments that make fans cry. The Star Wars saga is not your typical film series. Instead, it’s a generational experience that has been ongoing since 1977. Star Wars has continued for 50+ years now, and fans have a unique connection with the characters and to every scene, behind-the-scenes moments, and more.
The audience’s attachment to the Star Wars franchise is something that cannot be explained with words. So, today we are going to list some of the most emotional moments from the series that have made the fans cry and even left some depressed. So, make sure to watch all Star Wars movies in order to get the feels of these saddest moments ever of the franchise.
1. Death of Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru
In Star Wars IV: A New Hope (1977), fans knew Star Wars was not playing at all. The story was built around Luke Skywalker, who works on a farm with Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru – a young boy who would become one of the most iconic characters in history ever.
Luke rejected Obu-Wan’s offer and decided to work on the farm, as Owen also thought it would be best if he kept his head down. However, things changed when one day Luke returned to the farm only to find out that Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru had been slaughtered by the Stormtroopers. Not only did their death kill off the idea of Luke staying on Tatooine, but it also showed the fans how real the stakes are in the Star Wars franchise. It was definitely one of the high-impact moments of the series.
2. Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Death
A New Hope (originally called Star Wars) was the first time audiences saw Star Wars iconic characters like Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Darth Vader. Alec Guinness gave a fantastic performance as Jedi Master Obi-wan Kenobi – a mentor to Luke. He was a powerful character who could make Stormtroopers do anything with a single command.
Being a Jedi Knight and his magical abilities, fans thought he would be sticking around for some time. However, he is killed by Darth Vader. During his death scene, Luke’s cry of anguish left fans feeling terrible as we could feel his emotions, and fans were left wondering what Luke would do without the guidance of Obi-wan.
Obi-wan Kenobi was a major character of the series, and his death showed fans that no one was safe from Darth Vader, not even the beloved characters who audiences never thought would be killed.
3. The death of Yoda left fans sobbing
When it comes to the most beloved characters in the Star Wars series, one of the favourite characters of fans, without a doubt, is Yoda. We absolutely fell in love with his character in The Empire Strikes Back, thanks to his unique look, humour, and wisdom.
In Return of the Jedi, Luke Skywalker pays a final visit to Yoda, during which he reveals that he has lived more than 900 years. Before dying, Yoda told Luke that he had kin somewhere out in the galaxy. After imparting a final bit of advice, Yoda fades away. It was a heavy moment for fans as an insightful character was gone, and Luke was once again left alone. In short, it left both fans and Luke sobbing as he now knows that the Skywalker family is somewhere out there.
4. Qui-Gon Jinn’s Tragic Death
Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace brings us another gut-wrenching scene of Qui-Gon Jinn’s death. The 1999 film had some heartbreaking moments and one of the saddest scenes of the entire franchise – the death of Qui Gon Jinn. The tragic death scene came when the Jedi Master fought against Darth Maul.
Qui-Gon Jinn was an interesting character – kind and devoted to Jedi traditions. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan Kenobi’s duel with Darth Maul was one the most-watched scenes of the series. The duel turns into a tragedy when Darth Maul separates the Jedis as Obi-Wan Kenobi helplessly watches Qui-Gon being hit by Maul’s saber before landing a lethal blow.
5. Rogue One’s Ending
Rogue One was a part spinoff and a prequel beginning right before the first Star Wars movie Episode 4. It tells the story of the Rebellion’s struggle against the Death Star. Rogue One was more inclined towards the dark and brutal elements of the Star Wars series. Rogue One focused on a group of rebels who stole plans for the Death Star and were never seen again. Why? Because they all died!
Every major character of the movie, from Jyn (played by Felicity Jones) to droid K-2SO – everyone dies. What makes this more heartbreaking is that each character is given an individual scene to say their goodbyes. And the most tragic scene was of Jyn and Cassian dying in each other’s arms.
Conclusion
Although every movie or show ends on a final note, the threat of losing your favourite character makes the experience even more thrilling. Star Wars hits differently than other series, with Rogue One being the saddest moment of the entire series. But death is a natural part of life, as once said by Yoda.
