Timeless Racing Games That Will Be Enjoyed Forever

There is something about racing that always seems to attract us and we have never gotten bored for that need for speed. Games have definitely reflected this love affair most of us have for racing. Therefore, it is no surprise to see game developers still bringing out new racing games every year and, of course, gamers don’t seem to be tiring of them. But which racing games are standing the test of time?

Gran Turismo

Gran Turismo 1 was the start of one the world’s greatest ever racing games. The game can be played either in arcade mode, straight up racing action or the amazing simulation mode. At the time it was and still is now one of the most beautiful racing games ever. The player has the chance to race some of the greatest cars created in Japan, USA and United Kingdom, with the opportunity to modify them. Licenses must first be gained though before any racing can take place. There are many different courses on offer to race, with both road and street courses also check Amazing Games like Pokemon GO.

Champion Jockey: G1 Jockey and Gallop Racer

The leading horse racing game over all consoles has been for a long time now, the G1 Jockey and Gallop Racer series, with the best one often named as the Champion Jockey version. This game depicts the Horse Racing World through a selection of 19 tracks, inspired by real world races that can be played through an intuitive interface, that really gives the player a feel of what it’s like to be a jockey. This is a great game for those who are interested in the world of horse racing, with the only thing missing is the ability to have a flutter. Daytona USA

Released in 1993 this game still pulls in the crowds in arcades now, as it still playable in many public locations all over the world and can be played on more modern consoles too. The player starts be selecting from three circuits and starts at the back of the pack. The aim is then to race past up to 40 other cars before the timer runs out. Frantic and fast paced, the player will do well to avoid a crash. The best players on this game will change gear may times and enter the bends at unimaginable speeds!

DiRT Rally

DiRT Rally perfectly captures the white knuckle feeling experienced whilst hurtling along dangerous roads, with the player knowing that just one crash or mistimed turn will harm their time for that stage.  It was designed for the PC initially, before it became available on the Playstation and Xbox. It is a racing game focused on rallying. The user must compete in timed events in stages on both tarmac and terrifying off road terrain. The first version of the game contains 17 cars, including ones from as far back as the 1960s, and 36 stages, from real world locations. The player can race at tracks such as Argolis and Monte Carlo.

Outrun

Outrun is an arcade game, released in 1986 be Sega, it was a massive commercial success and became one of the top selling video games of it’s time.

It is 3D third person racing game. The player controls a Ferrari Testarossa from a rear third person perspective of the car, with the camera placed near the ground, directly behind the car. The road curves and dips, sometimes making it challenging for the player to see what is coming next, due to being so low down. This is done with the idea of emulating real life driving of a Ferrari. The aim is for the player to reach the end of the stage before the timer runs out, whilst avoiding traffic on the route.
