The user must compete in timed events in stages on both tarmac and terrifying off road terrain. The first version of the game contains 17 cars, including ones from as far back as the 1960s, and 36 stages, from real world locations. The player can race at tracks such as Argolis and Monte Carlo.
Outrun is an arcade game, released in 1986 be Sega, it was a massive commercial success and became one of the top selling video games of it’s time.
It is 3D third person racing game. The player controls a Ferrari Testarossa from a rear third person perspective of the car, with the camera placed near the ground, directly behind the car. The road curves and dips, sometimes making it challenging for the player to see what is coming next, due to being so low down. This is done with the idea of emulating real life driving of a Ferrari. The aim is for the player to reach the end of the stage before the timer runs out, whilst avoiding traffic on the route.
